What Is A Web Host?

A web host is a service provider that places your Website on a computer which is connected to the Internet. This then gives people who surf the Internet a way to access your Web site.

The computer that the web hosting company uses is typically just like the computer you have at home/office, the only difference being that it is set up to serve up Websites and is therefore called a "server".

A web host will typically have a fast connection to the Internet and they may host thousands of Web sites on many servers. The web host essentially rents out space to you so that you can get your Web site up on the world wide web.

Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transferred at a time. Normally a broadband connection gives 512kbps. This means that 512 KB of data can get transferred per second in those bandwidth. Bandwidth is fixed and this depends of the internet connection you choose for using.

Data Transfer Rate is the amount of data that actually gets transferred through a particular bandwidth. This is variable. At a particular time 200 KB of data can get transferred and at some other time 400 KB of data can get transferred. The maximum data transfer is less than or equal to the bandwidth.

Disk Storage is the space on the hosting providers computer you have available to you for uploading your website.
